The NYCU Scholarship 2027 round gives international students at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) a monthly stipend, a tuition award, or both. NYCU is the university formed by the merger of National Chiao Tung University and National Yang-Ming University, which is why older pages still say “NCTU.” The NYCU Scholarship 2027 is the university’s own award, so it runs through NYCU’s Office of International Affairs (OIA). Our guide to all Taiwan scholarships compares it with the government awards.
This guide uses NYCU’s OIA admission page, its scholarship application system and department notices. Several pages still carry older headings, so we mark what to re-check. Last updated: October 2026.

What the NYCU International Student Scholarship Pays
The NYCU Scholarship 2027 round can include two kinds of award, and NYCU says they may be given separately or together.
- Monthly stipend: a university stipend, and for current graduate students match funding from the college, department or research advisor. NYCU says the number and amount of scholarships are adjusted flexibly based on budget.
- Tuition award: the NYCU tuition waiver is either a full waiver of tuition and credit fees, or tuition and credit fees charged at the rates for local students. Students on extended study are also charged local rates.
We could not verify current stipend amounts on an NYCU page. One older NYCU department page, from the NCTU era, quoted up to NT$21,000, NT$22,000 and NT$29,000 per month for undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, and we do not use those figures because they are outdated. Read the latest NYCU Scholarship Regulation, which NYCU’s notices link to.
Who Can Apply for the NYCU Scholarship 2027
For the NYCU Scholarship 2027, new students first need to be international students. NYCU’s scholarship system lists the target group of its New Students Scholarship as foreign students. You must first qualify as an international student under the Ministry of Education’s rules, which NYCU’s admission page links to.
Current students: NYCU’s 2025 Fall notice, which sets the pattern, asked for a total average grade of at least 3.5 for graduate students and at least 3.0 for undergraduates.
The notice also names two exclusions:
- Students currently receiving government-funded scholarships, such as the Taiwan Scholarship, the TaiwanICDF Scholarship or a scholarship from your home government
- Students holding a working visa or residence certificate
NYCU Application Windows for the 2027 Intake
The NYCU Scholarship 2027 timeline follows NYCU admission.
| Intake | Application period | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fall 2027 | December 20, 2026 to March 15, 2027 (OIA’s usual window) | Results mid-May; classes mid-September |
| Spring 2027 | August 10 to September 30, 2026 | Graduate programs only; closed. Results mid-November; classes mid-February |
| Spring 2027 New Students Scholarship | August 10 to November 13, 2026 | Result announced November 14, 2026, per NYCU’s scholarship system |
The OIA page still shows “Fall 2023” in a system label, but its December 20 to March 15 and August 10 to September 30 windows match NYCU’s later calendars. Re-check the exact Fall 2027 dates when OIA opens the application on NYCU’s admission page.
How to Apply to NYCU and Its Scholarship, Step by Step
The NYCU application for international students and the scholarship request are two steps, and you need both for the NYCU Scholarship 2027.
- Check you count as an international student. Read the admission page and confirm your status.
- Choose up to three departments. You can apply to no more than three, and you can enroll in only one if more than one accepts you.
- Apply through NYCU’s online system by the deadline, with two recommendation letters. The system emails your referees a link after you submit.
- Pay the application fee and upload the receipt (see the next section).
- Request scholarship support. New students use NYCU’s scholarship application system, where the OIA lists each open call.
- Wait for results. Admission results come in mid-May for Fall, and the scholarship system announces its own results.
- Enroll, then complete the scholarship steps NYCU asks for, including the Chinese course rule.
Documents, Fees and Language Rules
- Fee (admission file for the NYCU Scholarship 2027): NT$2,000 per department, or NT$1,500 if you studied at NYCU before. Some colleges charge no fee, such as Medicine, Life Sciences, Biomedical Science and Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering, Photonics and Artificial Intelligence.
- Documents: a study plan, your degree certificate and transcripts, two recommendation letters, a passport copy and proof of finances.
- Proof of finances: either proof of a government scholarship that is not NYCU’s own, or a bank statement showing US$6,000 (NT$200,000) dated within three months.
- English: departments set their own scores. NYCU recommends TOEFL iBT 73 or academic IELTS 5.5, or proof that your studies were fully in English.
- Chinese: most courses are taught in Chinese, and NYCU advises intermediate Chinese for non-English programs. Scholarship applicants and recipients must take Chinese courses unless exempt through earlier study, a TOCFL certificate or an NYCU placement certificate.
Renewal for Current Students
The Fall 2025 current-student notice shows how renewal works. The award period runs September to August. Applicants applied through NYCU’s scholarship system until noon on March 15, uploaded PDF documents and received results in late June. Graduate students need match funding from their advisor, department or college. Meeting the grade minimum does not guarantee an award, because NYCU’s committees allocate awards within the annual budget. Treat this as the pattern for the 2027 call and read the new notice when it appears. It is on a department notice and in NYCU’s scholarship system.
TaiwanICDF Programs at NYCU
TaiwanICDF is a separate scholarship with its own country list. In 2025 it paid for three programs at NYCU: the PhD and master’s programs in International Health and the EECS International Graduate Program. If your country is on the TaiwanICDF list, read our TaiwanICDF Scholarship 2027 guide. Per NYCU’s notice, TaiwanICDF recipients cannot also receive the NYCU scholarship.

Tips to Strengthen Your Application
- Apply early for the NYCU Scholarship 2027. The Fall window closes on March 15, and late applications are not considered.
- Choose departments carefully. You can apply to only three.
- Prepare recommendation letters early. See our guide to a recommendation letter for a scholarship, with sample, example, template and format.
- Get your English and Chinese evidence ready. TOCFL helps with the Chinese course exemption.

- Use the scholarship mailbox scholarshipoia@nycu.edu.tw for scholarship questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the NYCU Scholarship 2027 stipend?
It is not a fixed amount. NYCU’s notices say the number and amount of scholarships are adjusted each year with budget. The pages we could check do not print current amounts, so read the latest NYCU Scholarship Regulation. Some websites quote figures such as NT$33,000 per month for an elite PhD award, and we could not confirm them on an NYCU page.
What tuition awards does NYCU give?
NYCU lists a full waiver of tuition and credit fees, or tuition and credit fees charged at local-student rates. Students on extended study are charged local-student rates. Stipends and tuition awards may be given separately or together.
What is the difference between the new-student and current-student scholarship?
New international students request support through NYCU’s scholarship system when they are admitted. NYCU’s official system lists a Spring 2027 New Students Scholarship open from August 10 to November 13, 2026. Current students apply in NYCU’s scholarship system before each award year ends and need a minimum grade average.
When are the deadlines for the NYCU Scholarship 2027?
NYCU’s Office of International Affairs lists the Fall admission period as December 20 to March 15, with results in mid-May and classes starting in mid-September. For the 2027 intake that points to December 20, 2026 to March 15, 2027. The Spring intake, for graduate programs only, runs August 10 to September 30.
Is there an application fee at NYCU?
Yes, NT$2,000 per department, or NT$1,500 for applicants who studied at NYCU before. NYCU lists some colleges that do not charge a fee, such as the College of Medicine, College of Life Sciences, College of Engineering and College of Artificial Intelligence. You can apply to no more than three departments.
Do I need to study Chinese to get the NYCU scholarship?
NYCU says scholarship applicants and recipients need to take Chinese courses under its scholarship regulation. You can be exempt if you took Chinese courses before enrolling, hold a TOCFL certificate (Level 2 or higher is accepted for the exemption) or have a certificate from the NYCU Chinese Language Center.
Can I hold the NYCU scholarship with a government scholarship?
No. NYCU’s current-student notice excludes students receiving government-funded scholarships, naming the Taiwan Scholarship, the TaiwanICDF Scholarship and scholarships from a student’s home government, and students with a working visa or residence certificate.
Which countries can apply for the NYCU scholarship?
NYCU’s scholarship system lists the target group as foreign students, and the admission rules apply to anyone who qualifies as an international student. There is no country list like the one TaiwanICDF uses. Check the exact status rules on NYCU’s admission page.
Do I need proof of finances for NYCU admission?
NYCU asks every applicant for financial proof: either proof of a government scholarship that is not NYCU’s own, or a bank statement showing US$6,000 (NT$200,000) dated within the past three months. Read the exact wording for your case on NYCU’s admission page.
Which TaiwanICDF programs does NYCU host?
The 2025 TaiwanICDF guidebook lists three at NYCU: the PhD and master’s programs in International Health and the EECS International Graduate Program. TaiwanICDF is a separate government scholarship with its own country list.
Final Word on the NYCU Scholarship 2027
The NYCU Scholarship 2027 round can pay a stipend, a tuition award or both, but NYCU does not fix the amounts, and the Fall 2027 window should run from December 20, 2026 to March 15, 2027. Confirm you qualify as an international student, plan your three departments, and read the latest scholarship regulation before you budget. For the other routes, see our Taiwan scholarships guide.
