The NTHU Scholarship 2027 round gives newly admitted international students at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Hsinchu a tuition waiver and, for some awards, a monthly stipend. It is the university’s own scholarship, so it runs through NTHU’s admission system and not through a Taiwan embassy. Our guide to all Taiwan scholarships compares it with the government awards.
This guide uses NTHU’s Office of Global Affairs pages and its Study in Taiwan listing. Some of those pages are older than 2026, so we mark what to re-check. Last updated: October 2026.

What the NTHU International Student Scholarship Pays
The NTHU Scholarship 2027 round pays in two layers.
- Waiver: the NTHU tuition waiver covers tuition, miscellaneous and credit fees for recipients.
- Stipend (Type A only): NT$5,000 per month for bachelor’s and master’s students. For PhD students the page lists NT$20,000 to NT$40,000 per month in the colleges of Science, Engineering, Nuclear Science, Life Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Technology Management and Education, and in the International Intercollegiate PhD Program. It lists NT$10,000 per month for PhD students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, or in the intercollegiate program with a supervisor from that college.
A Type B award is a waiver without a stipend. NTHU’s January 2023 regulation summary says recipients still pay the fees a waiver does not cover, such as insurance and housing, so budget for them. The same summary says a new student’s stipend is prorated from the class start date.
Who Can Apply for the NTHU Scholarship 2027
Eligibility for the NTHU Scholarship 2027 rests on four points.
- International student status. You must be a foreign national who has never held Taiwan citizenship and has not applied as an overseas Chinese student. NTHU’s admission page explains who counts.
- No country list. The Study in Taiwan listing shows nationality as “All,” which sets NTHU apart from the MOE, MOFA and TaiwanICDF routes.
- No other government scholarship. NTHU’s 2023 regulation summary says government scholarship recipients are not eligible at the same time.
- No work-based residence. The same summary excludes students on a working visa or a residence certificate based on a work permit.
Selection is competitive. NTHU says it weighs academic performance, research potential, other factors and available funds, so a strong record and a clear study plan matter.
NTHU Admission and Scholarship Timeline
As of October 10, 2026, NTHU has published these dates.
| Intake | Application period | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 (undergraduate and graduate) | August 3 to September 30, 2026, 3:00 p.m. Taiwan time | Closed. Admission results December 1, 2026; scholarship results late December 2026; classes begin early February 2027 |

| Fall 2027, undergraduate | Not published yet | Fall 2026 opened in November |
NTHU admission for international students runs two main intakes a year, and scholarship results follow admission results, as the Spring 2027 schedule shows. The NTHU Scholarship 2027 decision follows the same order. Plan for the Fall 2027 graduate window to open around mid-December 2026, but treat that as a guess until NTHU posts it. The Spring 2027 dates are on NTHU’s admission notice.
How to Apply for the NTHU Scholarship 2027, Step by Step

Questions go to itc@my.nthu.edu.tw, the admissions mailbox NTHU asks applicants to use.
Renewal and Current Students
The NTHU Scholarship 2027 award lasts one year, and recipients reapply each year, up to 4 years for a bachelor’s degree, 2 for a master’s and 5 for a PhD. NTHU’s 2023 summary lets second-year to fourth-year bachelor’s students and second-year master’s students apply as current students through its scholarship system. Read the current regulation for the grade and conduct conditions before you rely on renewal.
Other Funding Linked to NTHU
Besides the NTHU Scholarship 2027, NTHU’s scholarship page also lists other sources: a Fulbright-NTHU master’s scholarship that waives tuition and credit fees and provides a dormitory and National Health Insurance, and outside programs such as the Academia Sinica graduate scholarship. Several figures on older pages differ from current ones, so use the page’s current version. The TaiwanICDF scholarship is separate: NTHU hosts two TaiwanICDF master’s programs, and our TaiwanICDF Scholarship 2027 guide covers them. Government scholarships are not stackable with the NTHU award.

How much is the NTHU International Student Scholarship?
NTHU’s scholarship page lists NT$5,000 per month for bachelor’s and master’s students and NT$20,000 to NT$40,000 per month for PhD students, plus a waiver of tuition and credit fees. PhD students in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, or in the International Intercollegiate PhD Program with a supervisor from that college, are listed at NT$10,000 per month.
Is the NTHU scholarship fully funded?
Only the Type A award comes close. Type A pays a monthly stipend plus a waiver of tuition, miscellaneous and credit fees. Type B is a waiver only. Recipients still pay fees the waiver does not cover, such as insurance and housing, per NTHU’s regulation summary dated January 2023.
Do I need a separate application for the NTHU scholarship?
NTHU’s listing on the Study in Taiwan site says applicants only tick the scholarship box in the degree online application, with no extra documents. That listing is older, so confirm it in the current admission guidelines before you apply.
Which countries can apply for the NTHU Scholarship 2027?
The Study in Taiwan listing shows nationality as “All.” You must qualify as an international student: a foreign national who has never held Taiwan citizenship or applied as an overseas Chinese student. Unlike MOE, MOFA or TaiwanICDF, NTHU does not use a country list.
When are the Fall 2027 deadlines for NTHU?
NTHU has not published them yet. For comparison, its Fall 2026 graduate application ran from December 15, 2025 to February 25, 2026, and the Fall 2026 undergraduate application opened in November. The Spring 2027 window closed on September 30, 2026.
How long does the NTHU Scholarship 2027 last, and can I renew it?
The award period is one year, and recipients reapply each year. The listed maximum is four years for bachelor’s students, two for master’s students and five for PhD students. NTHU’s 2023 summary says second-year to fourth-year bachelor’s students and second-year master’s students can apply as current students.
Can I hold the NTHU scholarship and a government scholarship together?
No, according to NTHU’s regulation summary from January 2023, which says government scholarship recipients are not eligible for the NTHU scholarship at the same time. The same summary excludes students on a working visa or a work-permit-based residence certificate. Check the current regulation.
Is there an application fee at NTHU?
An older NTHU FAQ says no application fee is required. Check the 2027 admission guidelines, because departments and programs can change their rules.
What does selection depend on?
NTHU says selection is based on academic performance, research potential, other possible factors and available funds. Awards are not guaranteed to every applicant.
Which TaiwanICDF programs does NTHU host?
The 2025 TaiwanICDF guidebook lists two master’s programs at NTHU: the International Master of Business Administration in Technology Management and the International Master Program in Information Systems and Applications. TaiwanICDF is a separate government scholarship with its own country list.
