Climate change poses urgent challenges, demanding leaders capable of bridging economic opportunities with ethical imperatives. This program, in partnership with the AFS Youth Assembly, is designed for emerging leaders eager to tackle these challenges head-on.

The global priority of addressing climate change requires leaders who can harness clean energy’s economic potential while preserving communities and ecosystems. The Academy aims to empower emerging leaders to merge this moral imperative with entrepreneurial opportunities, marking a unique call for young entrepreneurs.

What to Expect

Breakthrough Challenges and Opportunities

  • Breakthrough Energy, led by Bill Gates, outlines five pivotal challenges to combat climate change.
  • These challenges require revolutionary technological advancements across multiple facets of modern life.
  • Despite their monumental nature, they offer a significant opportunity for economic growth, job creation, and the transition to low-carbon development, as emphasized by the International Finance Corporation.

We Need Climate Entrepreneurs

  • Innovative thinkers are needed to identify market gaps and provide solutions benefiting communities and the environment.
  • Climate entrepreneurs hold a critical role in driving sustainability and creating positive global impacts.

Program Details

  • Dates: August 14-18, 2024
  • Location: New York City 
  • Fees:
    • Double room: $2950
    • Single room: $3250
  • Not Included: Flight arrangements, transfers, visa fees, insurance, personal expenses, transportation outside program activities

Scholarships

Eligible candidates may receive full program fee coverage along with a travel stipend by meeting specific criteria: 

  • Be actively involved in Climate, Climate-Tech, or Sustainability fields, either through work, studies, or research. Students should major in related fields (STEM, business, law, etc.) with at least 1 year of relevant Climate/Sustainability experience (internship, work, research, etc.)
  • Have never attended the AFS Youth Assembly before
  • Be aged between 18 – 32 at the time of application
  • Be proficient in English for active participation in program sessions
  • Demonstrate the ability to secure a travel visa for in-person attendance at the event in the United States
