Job Details:

  • Job Title: Various Positions (Interns)
  • Location: UNFPA Tanzania (Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar & Dodoma)
  • Type: Full-time (approximately 40 hours per week)
  • Duration: Up to 6 months

About the Position: Under the direct supervision of the head of the unit/section, interns will support the unit/team in assigned areas based on their application, interest, and UNFPA’s needs and mandate. A mutually agreed work-plan will guide the internship, fostering an environment for skill enhancement aligned with UNFPA’s mandate.

About UNFPA: UNFPA is the lead UN agency committed to creating a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. Their new strategic plan (2022-2025) focuses on transformative results, including ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence.

Your Assignment: Interns will be assigned based on their interests and applications to various main units at UNFPA, including Programme Management, Gender and Human Rights, Population and Development, and more.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Enrolled in a postgraduate degree program or equivalent.
  • In the final academic year of a first university degree program.
  • Recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program.

Other eligibility requirements include demonstrating interest in development, proficiency in English, and the ability to adapt to new environments and work harmoniously with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

Learning Elements: Interns will gain knowledge assets such as understanding UNFPA’s mandate, governance, and executive board, as well as program design and delivery mechanisms. They will also learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms.

Financial Aspects: Interns do not receive a salary but will be provided a stipend to cover basic daily expenses. The nominating institution or interns themselves must assume associated costs like living expenses, accommodation, travel, and insurance.
