Deadline: January 31, 2024
Are you ready to make a lasting impact on racial justice? The Soros Equality Fellowship, hosted by Open Society-U.S., is calling for individuals who aspire to be innovative leaders in this critical field.
What is the Soros Equality Fellowship? It’s more than a fellowship; it’s an opportunity for bold, innovative leaders to shape the narrative of an inclusive multiracial democracy. Open Society is looking for projects that challenge assumptions, take risks, and address the systems reinforcing inequities in the United States.
Key Points:
- Flexibility and Openness: The Fellowship is a space to incubate new ideas and develop unconventional thinking.
- Project Focus: Address a challenge and propose a critical intervention to combat inequities and discrimination.
- Network of Leaders: Join a diverse network of leaders with the resources to tackle racial inequality and envision a more equitable future.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Commit at least 35 hours per week to the project.
- Projects outside the U.S. must directly relate to a U.S. racial justice issue.
- Joint applications are accepted (up to two individuals sharing one award).
- Projects involving lobbying or political activities are not funded.
Application Process:
- Submission Deadline: January 31, 2024.
- Selection Process: Applications will be evaluated for critical need, competitiveness, innovation, and leadership qualities.
- Interviews: Finalists will interview with a selection committee.
- Fellowship Award: Up to 12 individuals will be selected for the fellowship.
The program does not fund the following:
- enrollment for degree or non-degree study at academic institutions, including dissertation research
- projects that address racial justice issues outside the United States (applicants themselves, however, can be based outside the United States, as long as their work directly relates to a U.S. issue)
- projects that serve as proxy for an organizational grant
- lobbying or political activities
